Application
Solvent Yellow 18 is a high-performance azo solvent dye widely used in industrial coloring and organic synthesis. Its molecular structure with azo and quinoline groups provides excellent color fastness and solubility in non-polar solvents, making it ideal for coloring resins, plastics, and coatings. In the plastics industry, it colors polystyrene, acrylic, and PVC, producing bright yellow to reddish-yellow shades with good light and heat resistance. In coatings and inks, it is used in solvent-based paints, printing inks, and aluminum foil coatings, enhancing color brightness and durability. It also serves as a colorant for synthetic leather, rubber, and paper. Additionally, it acts as an intermediate in organic synthesis for preparing other azo dyes and pharmaceutical compounds. With stable chemical properties and versatile applications, it plays a vital role in the fine chemical and dye industries.
Safety Information
Solvent Yellow 18 is classified as GHS07 Warning, harmful if swallowed and causing skin, eye, and respiratory irritation. It may enter the body via inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact. Acute oral toxicity is Category 4; ingestion causes nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and dizziness. Skin contact may trigger irritation, redness, itching, or mild allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Prolonged or repeated exposure may dry the skin and cause dermatitis. Eye contact leads to severe irritation, tearing, conjunctivitis, and potential corneal damage if untreated. Inhalation of dust or fumes irritates the respiratory tract, causing cough, sore throat, and chest tightness, especially in poorly ventilated areas.
Handle in a fume hood with adequate ventilation. Wear nitrile gloves, splash-proof goggles, and dust masks. Avoid contact with strong oxidants, acids, and bases to prevent decomposition. In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water for 15 minutes. For eye exposure, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical help. If ingested, do not induce vomiting; rinse mouth and seek immediate medical attention. Store sealed in a cool, dry place away from food and feed. For transportation, it is UN 3077, Class 9 environmentally hazardous substance, Packing Group III. Dispose of waste per local regulations to avoid environmental contamination.
