Applications
Doxycycline hyclate is a broad?spectrum tetracycline antibiotic widely used in human and veterinary medicine. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, acting against Gram?positive, Gram?negative bacteria, mycoplasma, chlamydia, and some parasites. In human medicine, it treats respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, acne, rosacea, Lyme disease, malaria prophylaxis, and periodontal disease. In veterinary use, it controls bacterial diseases in livestock, poultry, and aquaculture. It also serves as a research tool in cell biology, inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and exhibiting anti?inflammatory and anti?tumor properties in laboratory studies. Its high oral bioavailability and stability make it a preferred choice for both acute and chronic infections.
Safety Information
Doxycycline hyclate is harmful if swallowed and an irritant to skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. Skin contact may cause redness, itching, and dermatitis; eye contact leads to severe irritation, tearing, and potential corneal injury. Inhalation of dust irritates the nose, throat, and lungs, causing cough and shortness of breath. Ingestion may result in nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and esophageal irritation; high doses can cause liver or kidney damage. It may cause photosensitivity, increasing sunburn risk. Wear nitrile gloves, safety goggles, and dust masks when handling; use in a well?ventilated area. Store sealed at 2–8 °C, away from light and moisture. In case of contact, rinse skin/eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes; if ingested, do not induce vomiting and seek medical attention promptly.
