Chemical Properties
- Composition: Main component is ricinoleic acid triglyceride, contains a large amount of hydroxyl unsaturated fatty acid
- Ester hydrolysis: Under acid/alkali heating, hydrolyze to ricinoleic acid and glycerol
- Dehydration reaction: Heating with catalyst removes hydroxyl group to generate dehydrated castor oil (conjugated double bonds, good drying property)
- Esterification/transesterification: Hydroxyl group on ricinoleic acid reacts with organic acids to form castor oil ester derivatives
- Oxidation: Unsaturated double bonds will slowly oxidize and rancidify under long-term air and light exposure
- Thermal stability: Stable below 200℃; cracking occurs above 300℃
- Compatibility: Compatible with most polar resins, surfactants; incompatible with strong oxidants
