  • Solubility: Fully miscible with water, ethanol, methanol; soluble in ketones; slightly soluble in aromatic solvents, insoluble in aliphatic mineral oil
  • Stability: Stable at room temperature sealed storage; reacts with acids to form salts; reacts with esters to produce transesterification; oxidizes slowly under long-term high temperature and air exposure; compatible with most polar chemicals, incompatible with strong oxidants

Synthesis & Applications

Production Method

Methylamine aqueous solution reacts with ethylene oxide under heating and pressure, rectified to remove mono- and triethanolamine impurities to obtain pure MDEA.

Main Applications

  1. Gas purification industry: Selective decarbonization and desulfurization solvent for natural gas, refinery gas, coal chemical syngas
  2. Water treatment auxiliary: Corrosion inhibitor for circulating water system
  3. Surfactant intermediate: Raw material for amphoteric surfactants, shampoo and detergent formulations
  4. Polyurethane auxiliary: Catalyst for polyurethane foam production
  5. Electronic chemical additive: pH regulator for circuit board cleaning liquid
