Synthesis & Applications
Synthesis Method
Three mainstream production processes are available:
- Precipitation method: Mix sodium phosphate, zirconium salt and silver nitrate under controlled pH and temperature, perform precipitation, filtration, then calcine at 500–600 °C to obtain finished product.
- Sol-gel method: Hydrolyze metal alkoxide raw materials to form gel, conduct ion exchange to load silver ions, followed by high-temperature calcination.
- Solid-phase reaction method: Mix and grind raw materials including sodium phosphate, zirconium oxychloride and silver nitrate, then heat at 600–800 °C for solid-phase synthesis.
Main Applications
- Antimicrobial additives: Added into plastics, textiles and foams to inhibit bacteria and remove peculiar smell. Widely used in medical catheters, wound dressings and food packaging materials.
- Functional coatings: Used for preparing antibacterial paint and marine anti-fouling coatings.
- Catalyst materials: Applied as catalyst in oxidation and reduction reactions for fine chemicals and pharmaceutical synthesis.
Antimicrobial Mechanism
Silver ions are released continuously and slowly, which can destroy microbial cell structure, inhibit respiration and genetic replication. It has good inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans and other microorganisms.
