Classification: Organosulfur compound, sulfonamide compound, organic acid, organic intermediate, research reagent, industrial additive, catalyst intermediate

Physical & Chemical Properties

Dibenzenesulfonimide (DBSI) is a white crystalline powder or flake solid at room temperature, with a slight aromatic odor. It is slightly soluble in water (solubility ≤ 0.1 g/100 mL at 20°C), and can be miscible with most organic solvents such as ethanol, methanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, benzene, toluene and chloroform. It is stable under normal temperature and pressure, but is sensitive to high temperature and strong acid/strong base conditions—long-term heating above 250°C may cause decomposition, and hydrolysis may occur under strong acid or strong base conditions to generate benzenesulfonic acid and aniline; it is incompatible with strong oxidants and strong reducing agents. Its density is 1.384 g/cm3 (20/4°C, measured value), boiling point is 429.7°C at 1.33kPa (decomposes slightly during boiling), melting point is 155-158°C (literature value, reagent grade), flash point (open) is 213.7°C, ignition point is 465°C, and LogP is 3.6 at 20°C. It has slight hygroscopicity, so it needs to be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated environment to avoid moisture absorption and agglomeration.
Key physical and chemical parameters are detailed in the specification table below, meeting the requirements of high-purity industrial grade, reagent grade, research grade, complying with relevant industrial and laboratory specifications.

Main Uses

Dibenzenesulfonimide (DBSI) is an important organosulfur compound with broad application prospects in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical industry, chemical industry, material science and other fields, mainly used as organic intermediate, catalyst, additive and research reagent:
  • Organic Synthesis Intermediate: It is a key intermediate for the synthesis of sulfonamide drugs, dyes, pigments and fine chemicals. It can participate in substitution, condensation and other reactions, and is widely used in the synthesis of anti-inflammatory drugs, antiviral drugs and other pharmaceutical intermediates.
  • Catalyst & Catalyst Intermediate: Used as a Br?nsted acid catalyst in organic reactions such as esterification, etherification, alkylation and condensation, with high catalytic activity and good selectivity; it can also be used as an intermediate for the preparation of metal complex catalysts, which are applied in hydrogenation, oxidation and other reactions.
  • Pharmaceutical Industry: Used in the synthesis of sulfonamide antibiotics, anti-tumor drugs, anti-hypertensive drugs and other pharmaceutical products, and can also be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate for modifying drug molecular structures to improve drug efficacy and stability.
  • Industrial Additives: Used as a plasticizer and stabilizer in the plastic and rubber industry, which can improve the processing performance and thermal stability of products; used as a corrosion inhibitor in metal processing fluids to reduce metal corrosion; added to lubricants to improve lubrication performance.
  • Research & Laboratory Application: Used as a research reagent in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and material chemistry experiments, including organic reaction catalysis, chemical analysis, material surface modification and other fields; it is suitable for laboratory research and small-batch experimental production.
  • Other Fields: Used as a dye intermediate in the textile and printing and dyeing industry, used for the synthesis of acid dyes and reactive dyes; used as a stabilizer in the electronic chemical industry, applied in the preparation of electronic materials and semiconductor materials.

Packaging & Storage

Packaging Method

Lab/Research Grade: 1g, 5g, 10g, 25g, 50g, 100g sealed glass bottles; 500g, 1kg HDPE plastic bottles with PTFE liners, suitable for laboratory research and small-batch testing (solid packaging, avoiding moisture absorption and agglomeration).
Industrial Grade: 25kg plastic barrels (inner lining polyethylene bag), 200kg galvanized iron drums (inner lining polyethylene bag); customized packaging available per customer requirements, complying with industrial chemical packaging specifications. 20′ container can load corresponding quantities according to packaging specifications for industrial batch supply.

Storage Method

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse at a temperature of 0-30°C (room temperature storage is acceptable, avoiding high temperature and humidity). Keep containers tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption, agglomeration, volatilization and contamination. Avoid contact with strong oxidants, strong acids, strong bases and incompatible substances; keep away from fire, heat sources and direct sunlight. It is non-flammable but harmful if ingested or inhaled, so it should be stored separately from food, edible additives and other incompatible substances, and stored in accordance with the regulations for toxic chemicals. Shelf life is 24 months under standard sealed, cool and dry storage conditions; the opened products should be used up within 4 weeks to ensure purity and performance, and the container should be sealed in time after use.
