Basic Information

Product Name: Nickelous Oxide (NiO), also known as Nickel(II) Oxide, Nickel Monoxide;
CAS Number: 1313-99-1 (EINECS: 215-215-7)
Molecular Formula: NiO
Molecular Weight: 74.69 g/mol
Structural Formula: Ni=O (ionic crystal structure)
Classification: Inorganic chemical, nickel oxide, ceramic pigment, magnetic material raw material, chemical intermediate

Physical & Chemical Properties

Nickelous Oxide is a green to black-green cubic crystalline powder, odorless, with stable chemical properties at room temperature. It is insoluble in water and common organic solvents, soluble in concentrated acids and ammonia water. It exhibits semiconductor conductivity at room temperature, with electrical conductivity increasing as temperature rises. At high temperatures (above 400°C), it can be oxidized to nickel sesquioxide (Ni?O?), which reverts to NiO at 600°C.
Key physical and chemical parameters are detailed in the specification table below, meeting the requirements of industrial and high-purity grades.

Main Uses

Nickelous Oxide is a critical inorganic chemical with wide applications in multiple industries:
  • Ceramic & Glass Industry: Used as colorant and adhesion promoter for ceramics, enamels, and glass, providing green coloration and enhancing glaze durability.
  • Magnetic Materials: Raw material for manufacturing nickel-zinc ferrites and thermal-sensitive components, widely used in electronic components and magnetic devices.
  • Chemical Intermediate: Precursor for nickel salt production and nickel-based catalyst synthesis, applied in hydrogenation, oxidation, and other catalytic reactions.
  • Other Uses: Utilized in metallurgical industry, cathode ray tube manufacturing, battery materials, and as a raw material for nickel-based coatings and pigments.

Packaging & Storage

Packaging Method

Lab Grade: 1kg, 5kg sealed plastic bottles or aluminum foil bags, suitable for laboratory use and small-batch sampling.
Industrial Grade: 25kg/bag (inner PE bag, outer three-layer kraft paper bag), 30kg/50kg iron drum with inner polyethylene liner; customized packaging available per customer requirements.

Storage Method

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse at room temperature (5-30°C). Keep containers tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption and caking. Avoid contact with strong acids, strong bases, and halogen substances. Keep away from fire, heat sources, and direct sunlight. Shelf life is 24 months under standard sealed storage conditions.
