Physical & Chemical Properties

  • Appearance: White to off-white needle-like crystals or crystalline powder, odorless or with a faint aromatic odor, uniform particle size, free of visible impurities.
  • Melting Point: 87–89℃ (literature value), stable at room temperature, no decomposition below 80℃, easy to agglomerate when exposed to moisture.

Uses

m-Phthalaldehyde is a valuable aromatic dialdehyde intermediate with high reactivity, widely used in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical, chemical and material fields. In organic synthesis, it is a key raw material for manufacturing fluorescent whitening agents, advanced polymers, and fine chemicals. In the pharmaceutical industry, it serves as an important intermediate for the synthesis of various drugs, including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral drugs. In polymer chemistry, it is used to prepare special resins, polyimides and high-performance composite materials due to its dual aldehyde functional groups. Additionally, it acts as a reagent in analytical chemistry for the detection of amines, amino acids and other compounds, and has applications in the production of dyes, fragrances and plastic additives.
