Shandong Huashang Chemical Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research and development, manufacturing, and sales of fine chemicals. Headquartered in Jinan, Shandong, China, we are committed to delivering high-quality products to our global partners. Currently, over 90% of our products are exported to developed markets, including North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the Middle East.

Appearance

White crystals or crystalline powder, odorless or with a faint aromatic odor. It has an intense sweet taste, approximately 300-500 times sweeter than sucrose, with a slight bitter aftertaste. No visible impurities under normal conditions; it has good fluidity in dry state and is not easy to agglomerate.

Physical Properties

Melting point: 226-229°C (lit.), decomposes upon strong heating above the melting point. Boiling point: Sublimes at normal pressure without a fixed boiling point; sublimes slowly at room temperature when exposed to air, with no obvious volatilization. Density: 1.7±0.1 g/cm3 (25°C), stable in solid state under normal temperature and pressure. Solubility: Slightly soluble in water (3.3 g/L at 20°C), solubility in water increases slightly with temperature; soluble in ethanol, acetone and alkaline solutions; insoluble in ether, chloroform and other non-polar organic solvents. It is stable at room temperature, heat-resistant, and does not change in appearance or properties under normal storage conditions.

Chemical Properties

1. Acidity: A weak organic acid, its saturated aqueous solution is weakly acidic (pH≈2.0); it can react with strong bases (such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide) to form soluble saccharin salts (e.g., sodium saccharin), and the reaction is mild without obvious exotherm.
2. Stability: Stable under normal temperature and acidic conditions; unstable under strong alkaline or high-temperature conditions, easy to decompose and lose sweetness. It is not easy to oxidize in dry air and has good chemical stability in sealed storage.
3. Decomposition: When heated to decomposition (above 300°C), it emits toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides (NO?) and sulfur oxides (SO?), which are irritating to the respiratory tract.
4. Incompatibility: Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents (such as potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide) and strong alkalis; avoid mixed storage to prevent chemical reactions.

Usage

1. Food industry: As a high-intensity sweetener, it is widely used in beverages, candies, baked goods, preserved fruits, dairy products and other foods; it is especially suitable for low-sugar, sugar-free and diabetic-friendly foods, and can reduce the use of sucrose.
2. Pharmaceutical field: Used as a sweetening auxiliary material to mask the bitter taste of oral medicines (such as tablets, syrups, oral solutions); it is non-nutritive and does not affect blood sugar, suitable for pharmaceutical preparations for diabetic patients.
3. Daily chemical field: Added to toothpaste, mouthwash, chewing gum and other products to improve taste, reduce the irritation of other ingredients, and enhance user experience.
4. Industrial and research field: Used as an analytical reagent in chemical experiments, an intermediate in organic synthesis, and a raw material for the production of saccharin salts; for professional research, industrial and manufacturing use only.

Storage

Store in a sealed container, keep away from light, heat and moisture; store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, the recommended storage temperature is below 30°C. It should be stored separately from oxidants, strong alkalis and other incompatible substances, and should not be mixed for storage; avoid long-term exposure to air to prevent sublimation. The storage period can reach 2 years under proper storage conditions.

Safety Overview

Hazard Category: Irritant (Xi); Harmful if swallowed (H302); Causes skin irritation (H315), serious eye irritation (H319) and respiratory irritation (H335). It is for professional manufacturing, research laboratories and industrial/commercial use only; when used as a food additive, it must comply with relevant national food safety standards.

Safety Precautions

1. Personal Protection: Wear protective gloves, safety goggles and a dust mask when handling; avoid inhalation of dust and direct contact with skin and eyes; ensure adequate ventilation in the operation area.
2. Emergency Handling: If contact with skin, rinse thoroughly with plenty of flowing water for 10-15 minutes; if contact with eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if present) and continue rinsing, seek medical advice if discomfort occurs; if swallowed, call a poison center or doctor immediately.
3. Fire & Spill: Non-flammable; use dry powder, foam or carbon dioxide fire extinguishing agents in case of fire; if spilled, isolate the contaminated area, wear protective equipment, collect the spilled powder with dry and clean tools, put it into a sealed container for proper disposal, and avoid dust dispersion.
4. Disposal: Dispose of waste and packaging in accordance with local environmental regulations; do not discard at will; if it is used as a food additive, the waste shall be disposed of in accordance with food safety-related regulations to avoid environmental pollution.
