Product Description

Ginger Oil (CAS 8007-08-7), also known as Ginger Essential Oil or Zingiber Officinale Root Oil, is a volatile aromatic oil extracted from the rhizomes of ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe). It is a complex mixture predominantly composed of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (e.g., zingiberene, β-bisabolene) and monoterpenes, appearing as a pale yellow to amber mobile liquid with a characteristic spicy, warm, and woody aroma. As a natural plant extract, it is widely used in food flavoring, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and aromatherapy due to its antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and digestive properties.

1. Physical Properties

Pale yellow to amber mobile liquid with a warm, spicy, and woody aroma; density 0.871–0.882 g/mL (25°C), refractive index 1.488–1.494 (20°C), optical rotation -28° to -47°, boiling point 254°C, flash point 66°C; almost insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and organic solvents; low volatility at room temperature.

2. Chemical Properties

A complex mixture of over 100 compounds, primarily sesquiterpenes (zingiberene, β-bisabolene, ar-curcumene) and monoterpenes (geranial, neral, camphene); unstable under prolonged exposure to light, air, or high temperatures (>90°C), leading to polymerization, increased viscosity, and loss of aroma; exhibits antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory activities.

3. Storage & Safety Properties

Storage: Keep sealed in a cool, dry, light-proof place; avoid exposure to direct sunlight, high temperatures, and air to prevent degradation. Safety: May cause skin and eye irritation; avoid direct contact with eyes and prolonged skin contact; wear protective gloves and goggles when handling; not classified as a dangerous good for transportation; GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) for food use (FEMA 2522).
