Product Description

Lactulose (CAS 4618-18-2), a synthetic disaccharide composed of galactose and fructose, is a white crystalline powder or granular solid with a molecular formula of C??H??O?? and a molecular weight of 342.30 Da. It is a non-absorbable sugar, widely used as a laxative and for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy. It is mainly applied in pharmaceutical R&D, clinical medicine, and food additives (prebiotic) fields.

White crystalline powder or granular solid, melting point 169-172 °C (decomposes), density about 1.52 g/cm3 (rough estimate), freely soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, odorless or with a slight sweet odor.

2. Chemical Properties

A synthetic disaccharide (galactose-fructose), stable under recommended storage conditions, non-reducing sugar, resistant to hydrolysis by human digestive enzymes, can be fermented by intestinal flora; incompatible with strong acids and strong bases, may decompose under high temperature or prolonged storage in aqueous solution.
