Product Description

Stoddard Solvent (CAS 64475-85-0), also known as mineral spirits, petroleum spirits or white spirit, is a refined petroleum distillate and a complex mixture of hydrocarbons. It is a colorless liquid with a kerosene-like odor, widely used as a general-purpose industrial solvent, paint thinner, dry-cleaning agent, metal degreaser, and in printing inks, adhesives and wood preservatives.

1. Physical Properties

Colorless, transparent liquid with mild kerosene-like odor, density 0.78 g/cm3 (20°C), boiling point 150-200 °C, flash point 38-40 °C (closed cup), insoluble in water, miscible with ethanol, ether, benzene and other organic solvents.

2. Chemical Properties

A complex mixture of C7–C12 hydrocarbons (alkanes, naphthenes, trace aromatics), flammable, stable under normal storage conditions, not easy to decompose, non-corrosive to most metals, with excellent solvency for oils, greases and organic substances.

3. Storage & Safety Properties

Storage: Room temperature, sealed, dry, well-ventilated; avoid open flame and high temperature[1][3]. Safety: Flammable, keep away from open flames, high temperatures and sparks; long-term or repeated contact may cause skin and eye irritation, avoid inhaling vapors; dispose of waste liquid according to relevant regulations. Transportation: Classified as flammable liquid (UN 1268), comply with hazardous goods transportation regulations, avoid mixing with incompatible substances, ensure sealed packaging.
