Product Description

Pyridinium tribromide (CAS 39416-48-3), also known as Pyridine Hydrobromide Perbromide or Pyridinium Bromide Perbromide, is a high-purity organic halogenating reagent composed of a pyridinium cation and a tribromide anion. Its molecular formula is C?H?Br?N and molecular weight is 319.82 Da. It can be regarded as a complex of pyridinium bromide with an additional bromine (Br?), existing as a red to red-orange crystalline solid at room temperature. It has reactivity similar to bromine, serving as a strong oxidizing agent and an excellent electrophilic bromine source with mild reaction conditions, high yield and few side reactions. It is widely used in organic synthesis for halogenation reactions, as well as in pharmaceutical R&D and laboratory research.

1. Physical Properties

Red to red-orange crystalline solid, lachrymatory, melting point 127-133 °C, soluble in organic solvents, decomposes in water.

2. Chemical Properties

A mild electrophilic bromine source with strong oxidizing properties, sensitive to moisture and heat, incompatible with strong oxidants and bases, prone to decomposition in humid air.
