Polyisobutylene (PIB) is a colorless, odorless, and non-toxic viscous or semi-solid substance with excellent resistance to heat, oxygen, ozone, weathering, ultraviolet radiation, acids, and alkalis. PIB is a colorless, odorless, and non-toxic homopolymer of isobutylene. Due to differences in preparation methods and process conditions, the molecular weight of PIB varies over a wide range. Most products with a molecular weight exceeding 10,000 to 200,000 undergo a transformation from a viscous liquid to a semi-solid, and then transition to a rubbery elastomer. PIB is resistant to acids, alkalis, salts, water, ozone, and aging, and possesses excellent airtightness and electrical insulation properties.
