Applications

Octadecyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate (Antioxidant 1076) is a high-molecular-weight hindered phenolic primary antioxidant, widely used in polymer and material industries. It acts as a radical scavenger, effectively interrupting oxidative chain reactions and preventing thermal, photo, and oxygen aging in organic substrates. It is extensively applied in polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyamide, polyester, synthetic rubber, lubricants, greases, and coatings, providing long-term thermal stability and processing protection. With low volatility and high extraction resistance, it is suitable for high-temperature processing and food-contact materials (FDA approved). It is often blended with phosphite antioxidants (e.g., 168) to enhance synergistic effects, improving material durability and service life in automotive, construction, electronics, and packaging sectors.

Safety Information

GHS Classification: H315 (Causes skin irritation), H319 (Causes serious eye irritation). Signal Word: Warning. Acute oral LD50 in rats >5000 mg/kg, indicating very low acute toxicity. Skin contact may cause mild redness and irritation; prolonged or repeated exposure should be avoided. Eye contact can lead to severe irritation, lacrimation, and conjunctivitis; rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice if symptoms persist. Inhalation of dust may cause respiratory tract irritation, cough, or discomfort; use in well-ventilated areas or fume hoods. No evidence of carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, or reproductive toxicity in long-term studies. Slightly harmful to aquatic organisms; prevent leakage into water or soil. Wear nitrile gloves, splash-proof goggles, and dust masks during handling; store separately from strong oxidants and food chemicals; dispose of waste per local regulations。
