Sodium 2-ethylhexyl sulfate is a versatile anionic surfactant with outstanding penetrating and wetting capacity. It is widely used as rapid wetting agent in textile printing and dyeing industry to accelerate dye permeation into fiber and improve dyeing uniformity. In electroplating field, it serves as leveling agent to eliminate pinholes and improve surface smoothness of metal coatings. It also works as emulsifier and dispersant for pesticide formulations, latex polymerization and industrial cleaning agents. In papermaking industry, it boosts pulp penetration and enhances defoaming auxiliary effect. Besides, it is applied in leather processing as soaking agent to shorten raw hide soaking cycle and save production cost. Its low surface tension and stable property enable it to be a common auxiliary chemical across textile, electroplating, pesticide, daily chemical and paper-making industries.
GHS classification: H315 (Causes skin irritation), H319 (Causes serious eye irritation), H335 (May cause respiratory irritation). Signal word: Warning. Low acute toxicity, oral LD50 (rat) above 2000 mg/kg. Direct skin contact may trigger redness, dryness and slight itch after long time exposure. Splashing into eyes leads to obvious stinging, tearing and conjunctival irritation requiring immediate water flushing. Inhalation of mist irritates nasal cavity and throat and causes cough and throat discomfort. No reliable test evidence proves its carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxicity. It brings mild adverse influence to aquatic environment, avoid direct discharge into natural water body. All operations need good ventilation; operators wear nitrile gloves, safety goggles and dust-proof mask. Store sealed in cool dry place far away from strong acid, strong oxidant and food raw materials. Waste liquid and residues shall be disposed following local environmental protection regulations.
