Application

This fused nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound serves as a critical building block in pharmaceutical chemistry and organic synthesis. Its rigid polycyclic skeleton and lactam functional group endow it with excellent binding potential to various biological targets, so it is primarily applied in the research and development of central nervous system therapeutic agents. It is widely used to synthesize selective ligands targeting serotonin and dopamine receptors, which are core candidates for developing antidepressants, anxiolytics and drugs for treating neurological disorders. In synthetic chemistry, the reactive sites on its ring structure support diversified chemical modifications including alkylation, acylation and ring-opening reactions, enabling the construction of a series of complex polycyclic nitrogenous molecules. It is also adopted as a standard reference substance in structure-activity relationship studies of heterocyclic drugs. Besides pharmaceutical research, this compound acts as a key intermediate for preparing bioactive fine chemicals and functional organic materials, playing an indispensable role in early-stage drug screening, lead compound optimization and laboratory-scale organic synthesis.

Safety Information

This compound is classified as Warning under GHS standards. It has low acute toxicity, with the oral LD50 value for rats higher than 2000 mg/kg. Direct contact with skin may cause mild irritation, redness and itching, and prolonged or repeated exposure may lead to dry skin and slight dermatitis. If powder or dust enters the eyes, it will trigger obvious stinging, tearing and conjunctival inflammation. Inhalation of fine dust can irritate the nasal cavity and respiratory tract, resulting in cough, throat discomfort and mild shortness of breath. No clear evidence proves it is carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction under normal operating conditions. All handling work must be conducted in a well-ventilated fume hood. Operators need to wear nitrile gloves, chemical safety goggles and dust-proof masks. In case of skin contact, wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and running water. Once eye exposure occurs, rinse the eyes continuously with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Store the product in a cool, dry and sealed place, keeping it away from strong acids, strong oxidants and food supplies. Dispose of waste materials strictly in accordance with local hazardous waste regulations.
