Isostearic acid is a high-performance branched saturated fatty acid with excellent oxidative stability and low-temperature fluidity. It is widely used in cosmetics, personal care, lubricants and fine chemical industries. In cosmetics, it acts as an excellent emollient, emulsifier and thickener, providing skin moisturization without greasiness, and is used in creams, lotions, shaving creams, baby care products and color cosmetics. In industrial applications, it serves as a key additive for high-grade lubricants, improving viscosity index and low-temperature performance. It is also a raw material for synthesizing various esters, which are used as plasticizers, solvents and dispersants in plastics, coatings and rubber industries. Additionally, it is used in pharmaceutical intermediates and food additives due to its good biocompatibility.
GHS Classification: Not classified as hazardous
Isostearic acid has low acute toxicity; the oral LDLo in rats is 64 mL/kg. Undiluted isostearic acid is non-irritating to skin and eyes in clinical tests, and is not a skin sensitizer or phototoxic agent. However, high concentrations or prolonged contact may cause mild skin dryness. Inhalation of mist or vapor may cause slight respiratory irritation. Operators should wear gloves and safety goggles in well-ventilated areas. Avoid ingestion and eye contact. In case of eye contact, rinse with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Store separately from strong oxidants. Dispose of waste in accordance with local regulations. No significant environmental hazards are known.
