Application

2,6-Dichlorophenol is a valuable halogenated phenolic intermediate widely used in pharmaceutical, agrochemical and fine chemical industries. Its distinctive molecular structure with two chlorine atoms and a hydroxyl group endows it with high chemical reactivity, enabling various substitution, condensation and reduction reactions. In pharmaceutical synthesis, it serves as a core building block for manufacturing bactericides, anti-inflammatory drugs and pharmaceutical intermediates targeting infectious diseases. In agrochemical field, it is an essential raw material for producing high-efficiency herbicides, fungicides and plant growth regulators, featuring stable performance and good biological activity. Moreover, it is applied in the production of synthetic dyes, preservatives and industrial biocides. It can also be used for organic synthesis research and as a chemical reagent for laboratory analysis. With stable physical and chemical properties and versatile reaction characteristics, this compound has become an indispensable raw material in multiple fine chemical production lines.

Safety Information

This substance is classified as GHS05 Danger, causing severe skin burns and serious eye damage, and it is also harmful if inhaled or swallowed. It may enter the human body via inhalation, ingestion and skin contact. Direct skin contact will cause severe irritation, redness, blistering and chemical burns. Long-term or repeated exposure may lead to skin sensitization and chronic dermatitis. Once splashed into eyes, it will result in intense stinging, corneal injury and even temporary vision impairment without prompt treatment. Inhalation of its dust or vapor will severely irritate the respiratory tract, triggering cough, sore throat, chest pain and difficulty in breathing. Accidental ingestion will burn the oral cavity, esophagus and digestive tract, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and systemic discomfort.
All operations must be performed in a well-ventilated fume hood. Operators shall wear chemical-resistant gloves, full-face protective goggles and dust respirators to avoid any direct contact. Keep the product completely separated from strong oxidants, strong bases and active metals to prevent violent reactions. In case of skin contact, rinse the affected area with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. If eye exposure happens, continuously flush eyes with clean water and seek immediate medical assistance. Do not induce vomiting after ingestion; rinse the mouth thoroughly and send the patient to hospital urgently. Store the product sealed in a cool, dry place and keep away from food, drinks and daily necessities. For transportation, it is classified as UN 2020, Class 6.1 toxic substance, Packing Group III. All waste and contaminated packaging shall be disposed of strictly in accordance with local hazardous waste regulations to avoid environmental pollution.
