Application

(S)-BINOL is one of the most essential chiral ligands and chiral building blocks in organic synthesis, mainly applied in asymmetric catalysis. It can coordinate with boron, aluminum, titanium, zirconium, rare earth metals and other elements to form chiral catalysts with high activity and excellent enantioselectivity. These catalysts are widely used in asymmetric reduction of ketones and imines, asymmetric addition reactions, asymmetric epoxidation and Diels–Alder reactions. This compound serves as a key raw material for manufacturing chiral pharmaceutical intermediates including antidepressants, anticancer drugs and cardiovascular agents. It is also adopted in the production of chiral pesticides, chiral fragrances and chiral liquid crystal materials. Moreover, it acts as an efficient chiral resolving agent to separate racemic mixtures of amines, alcohols and carboxylic acids. It can be further modified to synthesize sophisticated chiral ligands such as BINAP and Box. Featuring outstanding chemical stability and strong stereoselective induction ability, (S)-BINOL is a standard chiral block extensively used in both academic research and industrial asymmetric synthesis.

Safety Information

This product is classified as GHS06 Danger, toxic and irritating. It may enter the human body via inhalation, ingestion and skin contact. The oral LD50 in rats is within toxic range, while it shows low toxicity through dermal contact. Direct skin contact will cause irritation, redness and itching, and repeated exposure may lead to allergic reactions. It causes severe eye irritation and potential corneal damage; rinse eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes and seek medical treatment immediately once exposed. Inhalation of dust will irritate the respiratory tract and trigger cough and discomfort, so operations must be carried out in well-ventilated areas with dust respirators. Ingestion may result in nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Do not induce vomiting and get medical help promptly. Wear protective gloves, safety goggles and dust masks during handling, and keep away from strong oxidants. It is classified as UN 2811, Class 6.1 toxic substance, Packing Group III for transportation. Dispose of waste strictly in accordance with local hazardous waste regulations.
