Applications
Pimecrolimus is a topical immunosuppressive macrolide lactone, widely used in dermatology. It selectively inhibits inflammatory cytokine secretion from T cells and mast cells, suppressing immune overactivity in skin without systemic immunosuppression. It is primarily indicated for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children over 2 years old, effectively relieving itching, redness and inflammation. It is also applied in treating psoriasis, allergic/irritant contact dermatitis and other inflammatory skin disorders. Unlike corticosteroids, it does not cause skin atrophy or hormone dependence, suitable for long-term maintenance and sensitive areas like face and folds. Its anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative properties make it a core drug in non-steroidal topical therapy, with stable demand in global dermatological market.
Safety Information
Pimecrolimus is classified as a low-toxicity drug with local and mild systemic risks. GHS hazard symbols: GHS07 (warning). Inhalation of dust may irritate respiratory tract; avoid dust generation and use respiratory protection in powder handling. Skin contact may cause mild irritation, redness or itching; wear gloves and wash skin thoroughly after contact. Eye contact can lead to irritation; flush eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention if discomfort persists. Ingestion may cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhea; do not induce vomiting and seek medical help immediately. No severe acute toxicity reported, but long-term high-dose use requires monitoring. Store away from food, feed and children; dispose of waste per hazardous pharmaceutical regulations. Avoid UV exposure during treatment to prevent photosensitivity reactions.
