Applications
2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-5-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole is a key 1,3,4-oxadiazole heterocyclic intermediate with high synthetic value. Its oxadiazole ring exhibits good biological activity and chemical stability, widely used in pharmaceutical, pesticide and material chemistry. In pharma, it’s a core scaffold for synthesizing anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial and anticancer drugs by modifying the benzene ring or oxadiazole substituents. In pesticides, it’s used to prepare high-efficiency fungicides, insecticides and plant growth regulators with low toxicity. It also serves as a raw material for organic synthesis, liquid crystal materials and dyes, and a key intermediate in Schiff base and metal complex synthesis.
Safety Information
This compound has low toxicity and slight irritation. Inhalation of dust may irritate the respiratory tract (sore throat, cough); avoid long-term inhalation. Skin contact may cause dryness or mild itching; wash with water after contact. Eye contact may cause stinging; rinse with plenty of water for ≥15 minutes. Ingestion may cause mild nausea or gastrointestinal discomfort. Operate in a fume hood with dust masks, chemical-resistant gloves and safety goggles. Store separately from food and oxidants. Dispose of waste per hazardous waste regulations.
