Molybdenum is a rare refractory metal with excellent high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity. It is widely used in alloy steel smelting, aerospace materials, electronic industry and chemical catalysis. It can improve strength, toughness and wear resistance when added into steel and alloy materials. It is also used as high-temperature furnace parts, electrode materials, semiconductor raw materials and corrosion-resistant coating materials. In chemical industry, it serves as catalyst for petrochemical refining and fine chemical synthesis, and also applied in new energy materials, thermal spraying and powder metallurgy fields.

Molybdenum metal powder has low acute toxicity but may cause mild irritation to respiratory tract and skin. Inhalation of metal dust may lead to throat discomfort, cough and slight respiratory irritation. Skin long-term contact with dust may cause dryness and mild allergic reaction. Eye contact with dust will produce foreign body sensation and conjunctival congestion, need timely rinsing with plenty of clean water. Accidental ingestion may cause slight gastrointestinal discomfort. Operation should be done in well-ventilated place, wear dust mask, protective gloves and safety goggles. Keep sealed to prevent dust dispersion, store separately from strong oxidants and acid substances. Waste materials shall be disposed in accordance with metal solid waste regulations to avoid dust pollution and hidden health risks.
