Applications

Methyl palmitate is a common long-chain saturated fatty acid ester, widely used in daily chemical industry, pharmaceutical preparation, organic synthesis and biofuel research. It has excellent lubricity, emulsification and skin-friendly properties, often used as raw material for cosmetics, skin care products and emulsifiers, playing roles in moisturizing, lubricating and softening skin texture. In organic synthesis, it serves as an important intermediate for the preparation of higher alcohols, fatty amides and surfactant products, and is commonly used in esterification, reduction and derivative modification reactions. In pharmaceutical industry, it can be used as drug solubilizer, sustained-release excipient and lubricant for tablet molding. It is also a standard reagent for fatty acid composition analysis, widely applied in food detection, biochemical research and plant lipid extraction, and can be used as raw material for biomass diesel and industrial lubricant additives.

Safety Information

Methyl palmitate is low-toxic and chemically mild under conventional use, but still needs basic protection during operation and storage. Inhalation of high-temperature vapor or mist may cause slight irritation to respiratory tract, resulting in throat dryness and mild discomfort in poorly ventilated environments. Direct skin contact generally does not cause allergy; however, long-term continuous contact may lead to dry skin and tightness. Eye contact with liquid or molten solid may cause slight conjunctival irritation, redness and foreign body feeling, which can be relieved by timely rinsing with plenty of clean water. Accidental ingestion of a small amount usually has no obvious toxic reaction, while excessive intake may cause mild nausea and gastrointestinal distension. During handling, wear ordinary nitrile gloves, safety goggles and simple dust mask, and operate in a well-ventilated place. Store tightly sealed away from heat sources, strong oxidants and direct sunlight. Waste materials and contaminated packaging shall be disposed in accordance with general chemical waste regulations to avoid arbitrary discharge and prevent environmental accumulation pollution.
